Fimbul Winter represent a powerful new force in Swedish Death Metal, with roots deeply anchored in the genre’s history. The band brings together former founding members of Amon Amarth: Anders Biazzi (then Hansson) on guitar and Niko Kaukinen on drums, along with Fredrik Andersson, Amon Amarth’s longtime drummer, now on lead guitar. The lineup is completed by Clint Williams, whose addition has added fresh energy and intensity to the band’s sound.
The idea originated from a spontaneous reunion to play Amon Amarth’s 1994 demo The Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter. That spark quickly grew into a more concrete project: the desire to create new music that captures the spirit of the early Swedish death metal scene—uncompromising and ferocious. The result was the debut EP What Once Was, consisting of five cold, direct, and relentless tracks that deliver an authentic, unfiltered sound.
As standard-bearers of the Swedish melodic death metal tradition, Fimbul Winter channel decades of experience into a project that looks forward while staying true to its roots—from rediscovered riffs originally written for Amon Amarth to new compositions crafted in the same primal spirit. Fimbul Winter is neither a side project nor a nostalgia act, but a band born from unfinished business and a clear purpose: to continue shaping the sound they helped create.
