Node

Node is an Italian extreme metal band formed in 1994 by guitarist Steve Minelli. After their first demo, Grind Revolution in Mass Evolution, which received excellent reviews in music magazines, they released their first EP, ASK, in December 1995 through Italian label Lucretia Records, featuring new members Gary D’Eramo (vocals/guitar), Klaus Mariani (bass), John Manti (drums), alongside Steve Minelli.

Following numerous live shows—including supporting Death during their Italian Symbolic tour—the band released their debut full-length, Technical Crime, in January 1998 with new singer/guitarist Daniel Botti. Steve Minelli left the band in June 1999.

In August 2001, Node recorded their second album, Sweatshops, at Underground Studios in Västerås, Sweden, with the lineup of Daniel Botti (vocals/guitars), Gary D’Eramo (guitars/vocals), Klaus Mariani (bass), and Mario Giannini (drums). Released in February 2002 via Scarlet Records, the album showcased a mix of classic heavy metal atmospheres with an obsessive and aggressive northern European death metal approach.

Node opened the Gods of Metal festival in June 2002 and, in March 2003, performed at Alcatraz as support for Anthrax, featuring new drummer Marco Di Salvia, whose fast, furious, and technical playing impressed audiences.

With major production by Pelle Saether and Lars Linden at Underground Studio, the band released Das Kapital in early 2004, possibly their most iconic album, followed by a promotional tour with Lacuna Coil (March–April 2004). At this time, Node was one of Italy’s most active extreme metal acts, also supporting Fear Factory in Turin and touring with Withering Surface and HateSphere.

Their fourth full-length, As God Kills, was recorded in summer 2005 at Underground Studio, mixed by Pelle Saether, and mastered by Goran Finnberg. Released via Massacre Records on May 20, 2006, it marked a stylistic shift to a more violent and aggressive sound. Node toured Europe in support of Lacuna Coil and Poisonblack later that year.

In November 2008, Daniel Botti left the band after 12 years and four albums, followed shortly by bassist Klaus Mariani. Gabriel Pignata (Destrage) joined on bass, while Rex Caruso (vocals) and Andrea “Attila” Caniato (guitar) filled Botti’s role, making Node a five-piece for the first time.

In The End Everything is a Gag, recorded and mixed by Marco Ribecai in Pisa, was released in January 2010, introducing a groovy-modern approach to Node’s metal style.

The lineup changed almost entirely over the following years, leaving Gary D’Eramo as the sole founding member. New members Pietro Battanta (drums), Rudy Gonella Diaza (lead guitar), “Dero” DeRobertis (bass), and CN Sid (vocals) brought fresh energy and brutality in 2013.

Their sixth full-length, Cowards Empire, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Larsen Premoli (Destrage) at RecLab Studios, was released via Punishment 18 Records on April 26, 2016. It includes 11 tracks, two re-recorded songs from earlier albums, and a bonus DVD featuring live footage from Node’s 20th anniversary.

Node continued performing extensively in Italy and abroad throughout 2016 and 2017, including shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Prague. In 2018, Gary D’Eramo took over bass duties, while new guitarists Giancarlo Mendo and Gabriele Ghezzi elevated the band’s technical level.

In November 2018, Node released the EP Propheta, featuring a new song with Italian thrashers In.Si.Dia, five live tracks, and a re-recorded 2002 track.

In April 2024, Node returned with their seventh album, Canto VII, released via Nadir Music. The album features a lyrical concept based on Dante’s Inferno Canto VII, examined in the context of modern society. It is the first album with new vocalist Dave Arri and the first as a four-piece since 2006 (As God Kills).

Shortly after the album, the band released their biography, As Book Kills, by Massimo Villa via Arcana Edizioni (Italian).

Poco dopo l’album, è stato pubblicato anche il libro sulla biografia della band “As Book Kills” di Massimo Villa tramite Arcana Edizioni (in lingua italiana).

2024 also marks Node’s 30th anniversary, celebrated with special live shows.

In 2025, the band began pre-production for their next album.
