The Spirit are a German black/death metal band formed in Saarbrücken in 2015. Their music combines powerful riffs with intricate melodies, featuring lyrics focused on cosmic themes and a misanthropic view of human existence. After debuting with Sounds From The Vortex (2017) on their own label, Eternal Echoes, they signed with Nuclear Blast in 2018.
Their second album, Cosmic Terror (2020), reached #40 on the German charts, while Of Clarity and Galactic Structures (2022) climbed to #19, showcasing a progressive evolution of their sound. Reduced to a duo of Matthias Trautes (vocals, guitars, bass) and Manuel Steitz (drums), the band released their fourth album, Songs Against Humanity, in 2024. Despite featuring the longest tracks of their career, the album is more direct and engaging, demonstrating the band’s ability to create music that is aggressive, melodic, and emotionally resonant.
